The first step to avoiding costly repairs and ensuring the safety of the operators is undertaking pre‐start checks. For anyone using work equipment there is strict regulations in place: the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).
Within the workplace a daily PUWER inspection is required prior to a machine being taken out for use.

“The purpose of the PUWER inspection is to identify whether the work equipment can be operated and maintained safely, and that any deterioration can be detected and remedied before it results in unacceptable risks.”

This is particularly important when numerous people use the same equipment.
