The Turf Tracker Story

Born out of necessity...

In late 2019 it became clear that measuring the interval between spray applications based on weather would significantly boost spray efficiency. Recognizing this potential, I began to explore ways to make it happen.

I was already keeping weather charts, so I developed a simple chart to count the number of growth potential days from the last spray. This innovation helped optimize spray schedules and saved time.

Soon, I realized that incorporating weather forecasts to predict the next ideal spray day would provide even more preparation time. This foresight allowed for proactive turf management and better planning.

Around the same time, a health and safety audit recommended more regular pre-checks on our machinery. Having used clipboards previously, I knew that system was inefficient, slow, and less likely to be adopted by the team.

To address this, I devised a plan to digitize the process, giving each machine its own code so the information could be saved directly to a computer. When I tested this with my team, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. This digitization improved accuracy and saved time. Our machinery downtime reduced as we began to notice small issues and repaired them before they became a bigger problem.

I also considered using clip volume to measure grass growth more precisely. With the digital system already in place for pre-start checks, extending it to record clip volume values was a natural next step.

These ideas laid the foundation for creating Turf Tracker. Partnering with some amazing people has seen this idea turn into reality.

The tools and features of Turf Tracker have evolved from these early beginnings, born out of a simple yet powerful vision of what would be helpful. Today, Turf Tracker's mission is to empower turf professionals with innovative, data-driven tools to make informed decisions, improve efficiency, and maintain top-quality turf.
